Is Your Horse Trainer Doing His Job?

Their are so many great disciplines out there to try in todays Horse World. But say you have a new or young horse and you want to try something new..like Reining ~ Cutting ~ Endurance ect. You have found a great trainer that trains top horses, but will he treat and train your horse as well as he does the more expensive horses he trains from people who have been competing for a long time?
Sad to say that many top trainers don't look at your horse as importantly. They may even skip some of their 5 days a week of training. They think you will never know the difference. They take your money and talk to you as if you haven't got a clue.
Make sure you try to always go to look at the training facility you want to send your horse to. Try to get references from different people, some with expensive horses and some who just went with less expensive horses who wanted saddle starting or beginning training or refresher training. Talk personally to the trainer who will be working with your horse. Get a written agreement. If you are not treated with respect by owners and trainer, walk away. When you pay a Trainer...you expect your horse to be trained. Don't let trainers walk away with your money and not put the agreed upon training time into your horse.
Trainers today earn their reputation. If your horse was not trained according to your agreement, or didn't get their 5 days a week...you have a right to state your opinion to others who may ask about that trainer. Don't be vindictive, just state the facts. If they did a great job...make sure you get their name mentioned to all that ask about horse training. Eventually the bad trainers will have less horses they let stand in their stalls and less money to take to the bank.
When you pay a trainer to train your horse, your horse should be just as important as the top horse in the barn!
